Meet J. Chad Brown
Founder & CEO

Mr. Brown is the Founder and CEO of CommEx Advisors, a commercial excellence consulting practice focused on life science tools and diagnostics. Mr. Brown has over 30 years of commercial experience as a Senior level executive with full P&L responsibility and proven ability to build world-class commercial teams including sales force design and deployment, talent acquisition and management, and marketing strategy. Central to his success is an intense focus on process improvement and overall commercial execution which has resulted in transformational growth in key metrics including market share gain, revenue, gross margins, and profit. Mr. Brown has a reputation as a change agent who will create an environment that challenges the status quo and encourages innovative thinking to achieve peak performance with focus and clarity around a few, key priorities, especially in turn-around and growth situations.
His engagements have included startup and early-stage companies in the laboratory automation, genomic and proteomics sectors. He has served as a consultant to the Board of Directors, acting Chief Commercial Officer and Interim CEO. Prior to founding CommEx Advisors, he was the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at NanoString Technologies, a leading provider of life science tools for discovery and translational research and a pioneer in the field of spatial biology. While at NanoString, Mr. Brown led the commercial team through a period of double-digit growth driven primarily by new disruptive and transformational technologies which grew approximately 70%. Prior to NanoString, Mr. Brown has held various commercial leadership positions at QIAGEN, Roche and Chiron Diagnostics. He is experienced in the use of fact-based market research to understand and validate a commercial strategy including market segmentation, optimization of sales and marketing channels and competitive positioning and has demonstrated success in interpreting and translating highly technical and complex information into a commercial strategy in both regulated and unregulated markets. Mr. Brown has served on the Board of Directors for the Puget Sound American Heart Association since 2019. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.S in Health Care Administration.
